Crown Her! Little Red Cap brings the house down at EdUHK’s Spring Sing-Off

Little Red Cap performs Joey Yung’s award-winning song “Solemn on Stage” (隆重登場) which is about a singer’s shining performance that captures the attention of the world.

Right before the contest starts, Dean of FLASS Professor Li Wai-keung, centre, poses for a photo with members of the faculty’s administrative team, who have become devoted fans of Little Red Cap. Their smiles reflect the warm camaraderie shared as they cheer her on.

When the lights dimmed and Little Red Cap (小紅帽) took to the stage at the Sports Complex during the EdUHK Spring Lunch, her fans immediately erupted with excitement. They donned paper crowns featuring their idol, waved mobile phone lights, held up glowing posters and signs, took photos and videos, and chanted “紅紅,紅紅,妳最紅” (Hung-hung, Hung-hung, you are the hit). The singer who electrified her supporters from FLASS was Ms Tanya Kwan Hung-hung, Personal Secretary to the Dean of FLASS. With her captivating voice, she reached the Grand Final of the second edition of EdUHK Sing and Shine on 27 February 2026.

“I loved singing inspirational songs when I was young, and as I grew older, I became passionate about love songs. l like singing because it allows me to express my emotions and connect more deeply with my feelings,” said Little Red Cap ahead of her performance. As Tanya’s given name in Chinese, Hung Hung, means Red Red, she used Little Red Cap as her stage name.

Little Red Cap says she loves the song because it reminds us that we can all find a place to create value and achieve our goals — a place where we can truly shine.

The song she chose to perform was Joey Yung’s “Solemn on Stage” (隆重登場), an upbeat track that captures the singer’s confident and energetic stage presence, placing her firmly in the spotlight. “The lyrics that resonate with me most are ‘表演我直到你另眼相看’ and ‘將抑壓能量在臺上釋放’. They remind me that each of us has unique talents to showcase. I hope that every colleague at FLASS and beyond can discover a stage where they can shine—a place to create value and achieve their goals,” she said.

The FLASS singer felt a little nervous the moment she stepped on stage, but quickly settled into the concert-like atmosphere. “I noticed my FLASS colleagues moving forward from the back of the hall to cheer me on. They were amazing! Their support lifted my spirits and gave me the confidence to give my all and finish strong,” Little Red Cap said.

Little Red Cap is visibly moved by her FLASS colleagues-turned-fans, whose enthusiasm makes a lasting impression on the audience.

FLASS fans wave glowing mics and signs, showing their enthusiastic support for Little Red Cap during her performance.

Seeing them shout my name, wave their signs during the contest, and wait to take photos with me afterwards gave me a tremendous sense of belonging.

Little Red Cap said she was deeply moved by the effort her FLASS colleagues made to cheer her on. “I was truly touched to learn that they took time out of their busy schedules to prepare props and signs. Seeing them shout my name, wave their signs during the contest, and wait to take photos with me afterwards gave me a tremendous sense of belonging. There was such a wonderful spirit of positivity amongst us, and we all felt genuinely connected. I hope we carry this sweet memory with us for many years to come.”

The EdUHK Sing and Shine singing contest was first held during the University Spring Lunch cum Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony in 2025, and has since become a celebrated showcase of staff musical talent.
